Solid Mineral Commissioner Broker Peace in Oshiri over Mining Activities

Ebonyi State Commissioner for Solid Minerals Communities, Hon. Jonah Egba has mediated over the crises rocking the people of Amaokwa village, Oshiri Community and the mining company in the area, Goodnews mining and query company.

Addressing stakeholders of Oshiri community at the peace meeting held at Multi Purpose Hall Cabinet Office Abakaliki, the solid Mineral Commissioner called on all parties to appreciate God's natural gift, allow peace to reign and above all, ensure that due process was followed in signing a new all inclusive Community Development Agreement with the mining company.

Hon. Egba who faulted those who went on to sign Development Agreement, CDA without the consent of the community leadership and the solid mineral ministry, directed that a new  CDA be drafted within a month.

He assigned the Oshiri town Union President, Chief Obasi Elebe to within the one month constitute a committee that will come up with a new CDA involving the input of all stakeholders, relevant ministries and inline with the Solid Mineral Ministry template.

On their part, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Solid Mineral, Hon Edwin Onwe, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Elder Sunday Okike and TAs on Solid Mineral advised the people to appreciate government efforts in ensuring the protection and development of all solid mineral community, hence they should unite and work together in achieving peace and development in the entire Oshiri Community.

 Responding on behalf of the community, the Coordinator of Oshiri DC,  Mrs. Oyazi Doris Ogbonna, the Town Union President, Chief Obasi Elebe, the Ozo of Oshiri, Eze Simple Emmanuel, TA on Security, Obinna Odefa, President of Amaokwa where the company resides, Mr. Eze Gorge Okorie thanked the Commissioner for the peace meeting. They promised to let go of their differences for the interest of peace and development.

Recall that the State Government through the SA on Solid Mineral had in weeks ago, sealed Goodnews company in Amaokwa Oshiri over non compliance to government approved template for signing Community Development agreement.
