Kpirikpiri Market Inferno: Government Calls For Calm, Assures Of Thorough Investigation, Compensation


Ebonyi State Commmissioner for internal security, border peace and conflict resolution, Mr Stanley Okoro Emegha have described as unfortunate and disheartening, the fire incident that occurred at a popular kpirikpiri market, Abakaliki this Sunday afternoon.

The fire which razed down over one hundred and fifty shops and goods Worth millions of naira destroyed in the market, with the building materials, mechanic and  food stuff sections worst affected, spread from back of St. Patrick's Catholic Church to the market.

Emegha who was at the scene of the fire incident with security agencies and the state neighborhood security watch ensured that the fire was put off. He however, sued for calm and assured that Government will dig to the root cause of the fire to prevent reoccurrence.

On her part, the Ebonyi local government council Chairman, Mrs Chinyere Nwogbaga said that Government will compensate the victim of the fire incident and urged them to remain calm.

Reacting to the incident, the Ebonyi State Police public relations officer, DSP Loveth Odah confirmed the incident and assured that thorough investigation will be carried out to ascertain the cause of the fire.
