As arrangements for the forthcoming Local Government Council elections in Ebonyi State are ongoing, the Chairman People's Democratic Party (PDP) Ebonyi State, Barr. Onyekachi Nwebonyi, has advised key players of the elections to abide by the rules of the party.

Barr. Nwebonyi made the call today in an interview with the newsmen at the party's secretariat Abakaliki, immediately after the distribution of electoral materials for the councillorship  primaries of the Party scheduled to hold today 21st February 2020. The chairman expressed the party's preparedness for the Local Government Council Polls that will take place in April this year. He however advised all the aspirants and other key players of the elections to eschew violence and politics of rancor and to play the role of sportsmanship so as to promote peace and unity within and after the elections.
"We are here to observe our wards Congress. As you can see everything is going smoothly. We just finished the distribution of materials for the election under a very close supervision of the national body ably represented by the zonal legal adviser of PDP South East Zone and other officials of his team from Abuja. So we are good to go and I believe that everything will go on well".

The State PDP Chairman also seized the opportunity to debunk the ongoing rumor alleging that some candidates have been anointed by the stakeholders of the party leaving behind other aspirants without favour.

"We have not anointed anyone. The primaries will be free and fair and we will have the result at the end of the day. There is no any form of endorsement of any candidate".

In his remarks, the Zonal Legal Adviser of PDP, South East Zone, Barr. Ukpai Ukairo commended the party's commitment in advancing democracy in Nigeria. He expressed satisfaction over the outcome of the Wards Congress and expressed optimism that PDP as a party will continue to uphold the principles of equity and fairness.

"PDP remains the only party in Nigeria practicing liberal democracy in accordance With the tenets of democracy. The materials have been distributed and they have gone to the field to conduct the election and I am convinced that the outcome must be in accordance with democratic norms". He said.
