Corona Virus; Ebonyi State Govt Activates Rapid Response Center, Sets Up Emergency Response Team
Following the recent outbreak of Corona Virus in China with wide spread to other countries resulting World Health Organization declaration that Corona virus epidemic is a Global Health Emergency, Ebonyi State governor, Engr. David Nweze Umahi has proactively estabished Ebonyi State Emergency preparedness and Response Committee headed by the Secretary to the State government to implement number of preventive measures.
According to a statement by Dr Ugbala Kenneth Igwe, Secretary to Ebonyi State Government, doubling as Coordinating Commissioner, all major entrance ports into Ebonyi State shall henceforth be under Medical and Security Surveillance.
According to the Statement, all returnees and Expatriates shall undergo medical Screening With a follow-up for two weeks.
The Statement further disclosed that the Governor had also directed the Secretary to the state government to immediately procure seven pick-up vans and seven Buses to be deployed to all the six exit and entrance check- points including the treatment centre at Unity Square, Abakaliki.
Parts of the statement read;
“The State Government therefore, establishes screaming Check points at the following entry
Sport namely:
a. At Ishielu for Ebonyi/Enugu Boarder.
b. At Nwezenyi for Ebonyi/Ogoja-lkom axis
c. At Abaomege for Ebonyi/ Itigidi-Ugeb axis
d. At Nguzu Edda for Ebonyi Abiriba -Ohafia axis
e. At Mile 2 Ishaigu for Ebonyi/Abia State Boarder
f. At Umunagu-Mpu for Ebonyi/Enugu State
And a Treatment Centre at the Unity Square Abakaliki
The novel corona virus is carried by wild and farm animals, it is transmitted by air and causes fever, cough and difficulty in breathing.
“It is spread from animals to humans and from infected person to another
Furthermore, the Public is enjoined to observe the following precautions.
i. Improve on Personal & Environmental Hygiene and as well drink enough water each day.
ii. Regular hand washing and use of Sanitisers.
iii. When coughing or sneezing, cover the month and nose.
iv. Use medical mask to cover the mouth and nose especially in crowded events.
v. Avoid unprotected contact with wild animals and also cook meats thoroughly
vi. Avoid Travelling especially overseas for now.
vii. Any Returnee or Expatriate that has fever, cough and difficulty in breathing,
should be reported to the Rapid Response Team at the Treatment Centre, Unity Square, Abakaliki.
viii. All Returnees and Expatriates must report at the ports of Entry for documentation and Surveillance.
ix. Public institutions, Eateries, Hotels, Banks, Markets and Worship Centres are to co-operate strictly with these Government policy response.
“Again, our Dear Governor assures the People of Ebonyi State of his commitment to Public Health Safety and more Developments for the State.” the statement read.
