Posterity Will Remember Gov. Umahi As A Foresight Leader - Speaker Nwifuru Said
From Leo Ekene Oketa
Events of the past six months or thereabouts in Ebonyi State regarding the relocation of traders from Abakaliki main market to the magnificent International Market, have left very many Ebonyians in awe of the seeds of thoughts brought to reality in Ebonyi, by His Excellency, Engr. Dr. David Nweze Umahi - Governor of Ebonyi State.
Planted since assumption of office in 2015, Ebonyi State has started relishing and reaping rewards of a unique seedling that is sprouting in Divine purpose. Though some Ebonyians have certain reservations about the movement to the International Market, Speaker Nwifuru notes that such scruples are normal and basic in developmental processes and future generations will uphold the Governor as foresighted.
The Honourable Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly - Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru bared this thought while reacting to the hugely encouraging news that Ebonyi State Government has completed the construction of the International Market and has began processes of relocating traders.
“In leadership, you should not expect everyone to agree with you, it is not possible. Sometimes people’s criticisms help you learn, sometimes they do not. But one thing is very imperative for a good leader, you must be able to make informed decisions for the good of your people. His Excellency, the Governor has done this brilliantly and posterity will remember him as a foresighted leader. The grudgings of some traders about moving to the grand International Market is understandable, but everyone must sacrifice one thing or the other in the course of development. More importantly, they will be the ones to enjoy the economic gains of the new market. - The Speaker said.
Recall that on September 7, 2018, Honourable Members of Ebonyi State House of Assembly led by the Honourable Speaker, visited the then dilapidated International Market and approved the request of the Governor to reconstruct it.
“We (Honourable Members) were there (at the market) for inspection in 2018 and the buildings were in shambles, 30 billion naira had gone into it. It was a total waste. But look at what splendour Governor Umahi has put in place in such a short stint. He is a leader who not only shapes the present but a good part of the future as well. - Speaker Nwifuru said.
The Margaret Umahi International Market is located along the Trans-Saharan highway to pave, improve and ease border protocols on the already existing trade route between Cameroon and Nigeria. It is going to attract untold investments and better reposition Ebonyi State on the trade map of Nigeria and West Africa.
Having earlier granted several requests of traders to have the relocation date shifted, Ebonyi State Government has now directed that movements of traders from Abakaliki main market to the International Market would be in batches starting unfailingly from February 3, 2020.
