Commmissioner Calls For Peace In Ebonyi Community: Chides The Attitude Of Some Political Leaders Towards Peace
The Commmissioner for internal security, border peace and conflict resolution, Hon. Stanley Okoro Emegha have reiterated the determination of the state Governor, Chief Engr David Nweze Umahi in ensuring the enthronement of peace in all parts of the state, to give way for rapid Development going on in the state.
Emegha stated this during a peace meeting with the stakeholders of Abomege Community held at the conference Hall, ministry of internal security border peace and conflict resolution, Government house Abakaliki.
The meeting which was in response to a letter from some of the members of the community calling for an election to elect new executive of the town union as the tenure of the current executive have elapsed.
Emegha assured that all their agitation will be addressed. He urged them to seek peace at all times and shurn any action contrary to peace, progress and stability of the community.
He beckoned on those who has instituted any case in court or in police station to withdraw them as the government is willing and ready to go to any length in ensuring that peace reign in the community.
"Whatever it will cost us to restore peace in Abomege Community, the government is ready to do that. I urge you to pursue peace at all times as it is the greatest thing one think of. We are going to conduct the election and that is the Government stand. I will invite all the political leaders from Abomege Community including the council Chairman for a meeting within a week and thereafter, we will have a general meeting where electoral Committee will be constituted to conduct an election within a shortest possible time", he said.
He thanked the leaders of the community for maintaining peace in the area and charged them to continue in that direction. He however, frowned at the lackadaisical attitude of some political office holders from the area,whom he said had refused to show commitment towards the full restoration of peace in the community.
Responding, the former town union president Chief Charles Igwe thanked the commissioner for the wisdom and maturity he has adopted in handling the situation. He also thanked Governor David Umahi for appointing such an intelligent hardworkig and experienced hand as Commmissioner, which he said was the best so far. He said that his people people abide by the directives of Government.
Also speaking, the traditional prime minister of Abomege autonomous community, Chief Augustine Nwangele , Rt. Deputy Commmissioner of police, Mr John Nwele thanked the commissioner for his exceptional wisdom in handling the situation.
He prayed for God's continued protection and more promotion of the Commmissioner.
The traditional prime minister also urged the Commmissioner to prevail on those selling the community land to stop it forthwith. He also alleged that some people in the community including him have been dragged to Court and called for withdrawal of such cases to give way for total restoration of peace in the area.
High point was prayers for the Governor, the Commmissioner and for full settlement of all the dispute and return of permanent peace in the community.
