Fight Against Corruption: We Need To Be More Proactive Than Reactive - Umahi Advises

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has frowned at the rate enemies of the nation spew dissenting comments about their leaders, saying such expression of ingratitude portends grave danger to the entire country, especially as President Mohammadu Buhari intensifies efforts in his war against graft.

Umahi made the remark when the Southern Governors' Wives paid him a courtesy call in the Executive Chamber, Abakaliki.

The governor said with all sincerity, the people has every reason to smile and be happy with the president's posture against graft.

"When the Transparency International rated Nigeria very low in corruption, it is not as if we are very corrupt as they said, it is because our leader has changed tactics
"Mr. President has done quite a lot in real fight against corruption"
We are supporting Mr. President as governors, he commands our respects. I make bold to say Mr. President has never shown partisan in dealing with governors in Nigeria. This is why he commands our respects, and we will continue to respect him as our President.

"He has done less of party matters, but done more of nation building, he has our respects, he has our support.

To sustain the war against graft, he said "we need to change tactics, we need to stop media trials
"We need to do more of protective corruption fighting than reactive one".

While urging the women to the path of pillar and support for their husbands, Umahi lauded the nation's First Lady, Mrs. Aisha Buhari saying, she is a detribalised woman.

" Let me commend very highly the wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari,
"We adore her very highly because she is a good mother, in all honesty, she has love for Nigerians, she is woman who does not want to know whether you are from the North, South, West, whether you are from this party or not, she is a gift to our nation, I want to commend her very highly and for putting you together".

Earlier in her remark, Her Excellency, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki explained that the existence of Northern Governor's Wives' Forum informed the creation of the Southern Governors'Wives Forum "to foster social cohesion, support humanitarian programs of their counterparts in her state especially in the areas women and children and empowerment".
Mrs. Obaseki lauded Umahi's uncommon development in Ebonyi.

On her part, the hostess and Vice President of the Forum, and First Lady of Ebonyi State, Chief Mrs. Rachel Ogonna Umahi, commended the women for coming to Ebonyi State for the summit.
