The Federal Government has approved the payment of N33,000 as monthly allowance for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). The Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, disclosed this during a session with some corps members at the service’s Bauchi State Secretariat. Brigadier General Ibrahim, who was on a working visit to the state, cleared the air on the amount approved as monthly allowance for corps members. He explained that the approval was made in line with the implementation of the new National Minimum Wage by the Federal Government. Ibrahim noted that contrary to the various amounts being circulated on social media, the sum of N33,000 had been approved as the new rate. He stressed that provision had been made for the new allowance in the year 2020 Budget, adding that payment would commence as soon as funds were released by the appropriate authorities. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has sentenced Maryam Sanda to death by hanging for killing her husband, Bilyaminu Bello. Justice Yusuf Halilu gave the sentence on Monday in Abuja while delivering judgment on the protracted trial of Missus Sanda. He sentenced Sanda after she was convicted for stabbing late Bilyaminu to death, son of former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Haliru Bello. Upon her conviction by the judge, Sanda broke down in tears and wept uncontrollably. The situation worsened for her after Justice Halilu sentenced her to death, causing a sad atmosphere in the courtroom for sympathisers. Tearful Sanda was later comforted by her lawyer amid some officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) in the courtroom. The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the murder of an Engineer, Eze Burges, who was on Wednesday found in his room, in Etiti Uburu community in the Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. It was gathered that the late Burges retired from an oil firm and on return to his home country, was allegedly killed by yet-to-be identified persons. The Federal High Court, Abuja, Thursday, restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from giving effect to the judgment delivered by the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory against Senator Ifeanyi Ubah. The court had ordered the electoral umpire to issue a Certificate of Return to Obinna Uzor as the Senator representing Anambra South.
