The Commissioner for internal security, border peace and conflict resolution, Hon. Stanley Okoro Emegha has ordered for immediate discontinuation of all activities at a disputed boundary land between the people of Iyonu and Ameze communities in Ishielu Local Government Area of the state.
Chief Emegha gave the order this Wednesday, during a brief
meeting with few leaders from both sides of the divide.
The Commissioner who was visibly angry with the Development, chided the leaders of both communities whom he said, choose to embark on a land dispute when they should be supporting the governor in his his quest to prevent the spread of Coronavirus into the state, said he wouldn't have approved the meeting due to the prevailing circumstances orchestrated by the outbreak of Coronavirus, and the efforts of the state Governor, Engr David Umahi and his Government in ensuring that the dreaded Coronavirus do not spread into the state, but was compelled due to the Constance and aggressive petition flying right, left and center, from both communities hence, the need to give them an audience to minimize any break down of law and order in the disputed communities.
"It is quite disheartening that you people can embark on this kind of unnecessary land dispute when the entire globe is in a total locked down due to the outbreak of Coronavirus pandemic. More worrisome, is the fact that while the governor is working round the clock in making sure that the dreaded Coronavirus pandemic did not spread into the state, you are busy squabbling for land you cannot comprehensibly, give its historical origin, instead of assissting Government in sensitizating people in your area, considering the strategic nature of your area as the border line with Enugu, which already has two confirmed cases of the Virus" , Emegha lamented.
He however, ordered for the suspension of all activities in the disputed land until the Coronavirus pandemic is curtailed, adding that invitation will be sent out to all parties, stakeholders and other relevant Government ministry and agencies
who will provide the ministry with useful input that will help resolve the dispute.
Responding, the coordinator, Ishielu Development Center, Mr James Aba, the town union president of Iyonu community, Mr Innocent Ebenyi and his Ameze Ezilo counterpart, Mr Justin Ani thanked the commissioner and promised to abide by the decision of government.
Social distancing was strictly maintained during the brief meeting.
