Eschew Violence, Embrace Peace: Ebonyi Security Commmissioner Urges Ibi Oziza Community

The people of Imama, Agba and Amorie Villages of Ibi Oziza autonomous community in Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi state have been tasked to embrace peace.

The Commmissioner for internal security, border peace and conflict resolution, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha gave the advice during a fact finding meeting held at Ibi Town Hall with the elders and stakeholders of the three concerned Villages who has been having misunderstanding resulting from a disputed pacel of land in the village mentioned above.


The Commmissioner who was represented by the HoD border peace, Mr Ifeanyichukwu Martins Igrube, reiterated that the mission of Governmet was to ensure that relative peace reign in the area and indeed, all parts of the state. He urged the elders to avail Governmet of fact that can help resolve the dispute, noting that the interest of Government is for permanent peace to prevail in the community.


On his part, the Coordinator, Afikpo North East Development Center, Mr Innocent Inya Eluu sort that he should be allowed to handle the matter as the chief security  of the Development center, but on the contrary, the traditional prime minister of Ibi Oziza autonomous community, Chief Emmanuel Evo Idume  objected to that suggestion on the ground that the coordinator has already showed that he is an interested party in the matter and as such judge in his case but rather suggested that peace Committee should be set up to be chaired by Ezeogo Ewa Chukwu, Traditional ruler of Ibi Oziza autonomous Community, the suggestion was supported other stakeholders.

After thorough deliberation, the Commmissioner asked the three villages to nominate five persons each who will form the members of the Peace Committee, which was done immediately, the Ezeogo will serve as the Chairman, the coordinator and the Ward councilor will equally form Part of the committee, which according to the Commmissioner will be saddled with the responsibility of looking into the boundaries dispute with the view of identifying the original boundaries and advising Governmet accordingly. He emphasized that Governmet will look into the report after submission and review where necessary. He urged the people to make necessary input that help the committee do the job. He advised them to embrace peace, live in peace and go every where they go in peace.

The coordinator therefore, expressed appreciation with Governmet for the quick response and the peace machinary put in place and of his committent towards the final resolution of the matter and thanked  his people for the peaceful conduct they displayed during the peace meeting.
