Ebonyi State Governmet Bans Street, Road Trading Within The City Center

Ebonyi State Government has announced bans on street/road trading along major roads from old Government House to Onuebonyi
Junction, Afikpo road through Akanu Ibiam to Onuebonyi Junction and all the streets within the neigbourhood of old Abakpa Market, effective from Wednesday, 4th March, 2020.
In a statement made available to newsmen and personally endorsed by the secretary to Ebonyi State Governmet/Coordinating Commmissioner and who also the Chairman, Exco Committee on international market, Dr Kenneth Ugbala, reveals that Government directs that anyone found violating this directive should be arrested, investigated and prosecuted in line with the law.
The statement further directs all landlords whose buildings are located within old Abakpa Market to register with the Office of the Secretary to the State Government/Coordinating Commissioner within 5 days from date, failure of which will attract serious financial penalty and or sealing of the building.
Destruction of dilapidated buildings within the old Abakpa market will start from Monday, 9th March, 2020, to make way for the reconstruction of the new food, fruits and vegetable market.
Government further directs that all complaints arising from the movement and /or relating to allocation or non-allocation of shops at the new International Market should be forwarded to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government/Chairman of the EXCO Committee on International Market for urgent attention or call 08038254177 and 07046603333.
Consequently, foodstuff, fruits and vegetable dealers are directed to temporarily and immediately relocate to the new Spare-in-deo park around Akanu Ibiam junction.
Government wishes to thank the traders of the old Abakpa market, the market women, and security agencies, CAN, Neigbourhood Watch, Akubaroha Youth Assembly and the EXCO Committee on movement of traders to the international market for their various activities that facilitated the smooth movement of traders to the new international market. Government wishes to assure the traders of continuous commitment in the provision of enabling environment for stability in the new market.
