The United Bank for Africa PLC has supported the proactivity of the Ebonyi State Governor, Engr. David Nweze Umahi on the COVID19 scourge and other diseases in the state even as it pledged continued support to the state government. The branch controller of the Bank, Mr Sam Agbo today eulogised Governor Umahi dogged determination and commitment to the fight aHgainst Corona Virus scourge. Mr Agbo said Umahi's timely response to the malaise should attract appropriate support by all kind-hearted organisations, this he said informed the donation of the sum of Twenty Eight Million and Five Hundred Thousand Naira Only by the Abakaliki branch of the bank. According to him the UBA manager, Governor Umahi has demonstrated the capacity to handle the scourge hence the support to ensure all necessary materials are provided to mitigate the scourge as part of its corporate social responsibility. As the coronavirus pandemic ravages the world, I applaud the various Nigerian state governments who have proactively taken measures, such as issuing stay at home orders, and shutting down non-essential markets and other places of mass gatherings, while also giving guidelines for social distancing. However, we must accept the fact that much of the Nigerian public have a subsistence existence. A large percentage of our people do not have the financial capacity to withstand long periods of self-isolation and even lockdown. It is, therefore, incumbent on the Federal and state governments to provide palliatives to the Nigerian people to enable them to survive, even as they abide by these necessary measures put in place for their safety. In a move to check the spread of coronavirus to Rivers State,  the State Government on Wednesday announced that air , sea and land routes into the state will be closed to traffic, beginning 6pm, Thursday,  March 26, 2020. The Katsina State Government on Wednesday recorded the first suspected case of coronavirus (COVID 19) in the state. Dr Kabir Mustapha said the patient who returned from Malaysia, developed some symptoms that warranted further investigations. According to him, the patient is currently in self-isolation. Mustapha said his samples had been taken and results being expected by today, saying that contact tracing would commence as soon as the results were out. He said the ministry was taking all precautionary measures and closely working with the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on the matter. He said that since his arrival in the state, the patient had resulted to personal protection of using face mark and self-isolation. Mustapha urged people in the host community of Dutsinma Town to be cautious of their movements and gatherings.
