Our Work Is To Move Our People Out Of Poverty Says Umahi
Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi says the main preoccupation of his administration is to chiefly better the lots of pauperised Ebonyians by setting in motion appropriate mechanisms to "move the people out of poverty".
The governor made the disclosure at Onueke, Ezza South, venue of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN Account Opening Flag off exercise.
Governor Umahi said the infrastructural facilities ranging from flyovers and good roads, are secondary, placing human capital development and creating an environment through which the people can escape poverty as primary in his policy plans.
He further added that his administration has since keyed into the various programs of the apex bank, Governor, Godwin Emefiele which according to him include "soft loans for farmers, rice production and soft loans to our people.
"I was accusing them of lack of Corporate Social Responsibility in Ebonyi
"When they read out the in-depth of their commitments in this direction I was surprised.
"Our number priority here is how to lift our people out of poverty.
"The infrastructure you see there is just a means to attain the feat we want to attain.
"I am very shocked that the CBN Governor is lobbying state governors to ask their people to take soft loans from the Central Bank,
"This is highly commendable, we must take advantage of these programs and get our people out of poverty,
"Anything that will promote the well-being of our people, we can't ignore".
He assured the apex bank of total enrollment in the Account Opening exercise urging "all the Development Centre Coordinators, Executive Assistants, Senior Technical Assistants, and Technical Assistants to ensure speedy submission of details for further necessary action".
While urging various banks in the state to expand branch networks to the 13 Council Areas of the State, Umahi, assured of "provision of Closed Circuit Cameras, CCTV to track criminals elements".
Earlier, the Branch Controller of CBN, Chris Adayi said the process of enrollment is not bureaucratic hence to opening of centres in all the Council Areas of the State.
