Ebonyi State Government To Train, Equip Forest Guards
Ebonyi State Commissioner for Internal Security, Border Peace & Conflict Resolution, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha has charged the Forest Guards appointed in the state to be responsive to their duties in ensuing that all forests are well policed. Chief Okoro Emegha who gave the charge while addressing members of Forest Guards in a security meeting held at the Ministry's Conference Hall, Government House, Abakaliki, said that the Forest Guards appointed in the state would soon embark on intensive training from February 2020 to enable them police the forest effectively.
According to Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, the State Government through the State Ministry of Internal Security, Border Peace & Conflict Resolution would soon provide the Forest Guards with necessary security equipments & weapons on strategies for effective policing of the forest & other related security functions across the borders of the state. The State Commissioner disclosed that the functions of the Forest Guards were imperative because all the security outfits concentrated in the city while the borders across the state are porous & mineral resources, economic trees, wildlife & other forest reserves in the state are being looted by hoodlums on daily basis in the bushes with nobody to protect them. Chief Okoro Emegha said that the primary role of Forest Guards was to reduce illegal forest activities to the bearest minimum & charged them to always work in synergy with other security agencies & to relay information to the State Ministry of Internal Security, Border Peace & Conflict Resolution concerning any illegal forest activities & illegal movement of people across the borders of the state. Speaking on behalf of other Forest Guards, Mr. Titus Urum from Izzi Local Government Area, expressed joy for the security meeting & said that the meeting was an eye opener to them & promised that the activities of miscreants using the forest as hideouts would be curtailed especially when the State Government would equip them adequately with security equipments to track down hoodlums in the bushes across the borders of the state.
