NUJ Calls For Quick Implementation South East Development Plan

Southeast Zonal Executive of Nigeria Union of journalists, NUJ under the leadership of Comrade Kenneth Ofoma has called for immediate implementation of the proposed southeast Corporation to fast track integrated economic growth in the zone. The union in a communiqué issued at the end of their zonal Executive meeting held in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state on Tuesday, 5th December, 2019 also commanded the southeast Governors Forum for working hard to rid the zone of insecurity and urged the forum not to relent in reducing insecurity in the zone to the barest minimum. They called on the southeast government to redouble their efforts in construction and reconstruction of roads in the zone to ease movement and communication during the yuletide and beyond.

The body lauded the developmental strides of Ebonyi State Government under the leadership of Governor David Nweze Umahi, adding that the Ebonyi State Development model should be replicated in other Southeast Sates and the nation at large.

On NUJ leadership, the union passed vote of confidence on her leadership at all levels.

 ‘‘ZEC in session unanimously passed a motion reaffirming Comrade Kenneth Ofoma as Acting Vice-President of the zone following the indefinite suspension slammed on comrade Petrus Obi as vice-president of the zone by the national Executive committee [NEC] during its meeting in Kogi state last October.

‘’ZEC passed a vote of implicit confidence on the National President of NUJ comrade Chris Isiguzo for his focused, robust, result-oriented and exemplary leadership which has not only repositioned the union but restored its dignity and integrity as a credible watchdog of the society’’.

The zonal Executive through the Communiqué thanked Ebonyi State Government and Ebonyi the State council of NUJ for hosting the meeting and called on other states to emulate them. they also expressed gratitude to President Mohammadu Buhari  for approving ten Billion Naira for the rehabilitation of Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu and urged the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika to expedite action on the rehabilitation project for early completion and reopening of the airport for recontinuation of flight operation to save thousands users the harming experience they are currently    experiencing as a result of the closing of the airport and its negative impact on the southeast economy.

The southeast NUJ however called on business men and industrialists of Igbo extraction in the Diaspora to heed to the often repeated think home call by Ohaneze Ndigbo by investing in Southeast zone.
