At least two persons have been confirmed dead and 12 others injured in another attack by Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State. Four humanitarian workers were reported killed and two others abducted in an earlier attack on Sunday on a village near Maiduguri, the state capital. The latest attack was on communities on the outskirts of Biu, a major local government headquarters in the state, health officials said. Biu is the headquarters of the local government area of the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, and the Commander, Multi-National Joint Task Force, Abdulmalik Biu. Last night, the quiet town located 185 kilometres southwest of Maiduguri came under attack by gunmen who had overrun Matahari and Yamarkumi villages at its outskirts. In his effort to pay the reviewed minimum wage, Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi says the state's paucity of funds will not impede the payment of the minimum wage, but a table that will guide its payment will reached between the state government and the organised labour in the state. The Cross River Police Command has confirmed the kidnap of the state Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, Ben Ukpepi at his residence in Akpabuyo local government area of the state. The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Irene Ugbo, disclosed this in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Calabar. Ugbo said that the NLC Chairman was kidnapped at about 7.30pm on Tuesday night by suspected kidnappers. “The story of the kidnap of the NLC Chairman is true. He was kidnapped in Akpabuyo in his house. “We got the report this morning. The Anti Cultism and Kidnapping Unit are on top of the situation to rescue him,” she said. A source who pleaded anonymity told NAN on phone that the NLC Chairman was making a phone call within his residence when his abductors took him away. “His family have been calling his line, but it has been switched off since last night and his abductors have not called up till now,” the source said. Benjamin Uwajumogu, senator representing Imo north, is dead. An associate of Uwajumogu disclosed this to newsmen on Wednesday. The late lawmaker reportedly slumped and was taken to a private hospital in Abuja where he was confirmed dead. The death of the senator is the second to be recorded in the ninth assembly since its inauguration in June. Jafaru Iliyasu Auna, a house of representatives member, died earlier in the month. Uwajumogu appeared healthy and even contributed to debates on the floor of the upper legislative chamber on Tuesday. “I was with him yesterday in his office. I was with him till 4pm yesterday. It is sad,” the associate told TheCable. Until his death, Uwajumogu was the senate committee chairman on employment, labour and productivity.

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State on Sunday revealed how his successor will be ‘selected’. According to him, “intense prayers will be carried out in the 13 local government areas of the state for God to reveal who will succeed him.” He said no politician in the state can influence his successor in 2023 except God. The Commissioner said that immediately the information got him, he deployed other security agencies to school. But on getting there, he found out that it was a fireworks procured by one of the students that exploded while playing with it. Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State, has approved the construction of some strategic roads in Ikwo, the home of the immediate governor of the state, Chief Martin Elechi. The roads, according to the statement made available to newshunt by the special assistant to the governor on Media, Mr Francis Nwaze are Enyibichiri-Ojon-Nwida Road and Eworoshade-Amagu. The statement reads further, "In view of the above, the Governor has directed that contractors who are interested and have the technical requirements for executing quality jobs should immediately contact any of the EXCO members from the affected communities to indicate their interest on the Job."
