Ebonyi State; A Biblical Example Of Dry Bone That Rose Again Under Engr Umahi

When Engr David Nweze Umahi, took over the mantle of leadership, as the third executive governor of Ebonyi state in 29th May, 2015. He inherited a total collapsed infrastructural facilities across the state, no accessible road within the state and other social amenities were all begging for immediate attention; a failed economy; the state was at war with herself, as virtually, all hamlets were at one form of crises with the other, most pronounced was that of Ezza/Ezilo, which seemed to defile all solution; hunger, starvation and poverty pervaded the seemingly land of plenty; unemployment was at its peak; the health institutions in the state were all returned to the era of Nightingale’s nursing practice, were nothing virtually worked; youth restiveness, cultism, thuggery and all forms of ill-vises were all acculturated; the traditional institutions and their custodians were mockery of itself; Ebonyi citizens were regarded as no class citizen and treated like outcasts; Agricultural practices, which is a native of Ebonyi state, was jettisoned for non- existing white collar jobs; the state treasury was milked empty; the debt burden bequeathed to the state was humongous and alarming and the state was almost at the verge of collapse.

But just as God commanded Prophet Ezekiel, as recorded in the holy book ( Ezekiel 37 :5) to prophesy to the dry bones, he did, and they all became flesh and life came to them. So, was how Apostle David Umahi was sent by God to liberate Ebonyi state and her people from the shackles of poverty , underdevelopment and all sorts. within three years, just three years that Apostle Umahi acceded to that call, he has changed the ugly narratives, as he undertook the vigorous task of resuscitating, reviving and restoring the dead state (DRY BONE) back to life. Today he has transformed the infrastructural fortune of the state and the state now ranked high among the fast and best developing state in Nigeria. All the access roads within the Abakaliki metropolis has all been constructed, most of them with concrete base of between 6 -10inches solid base, and some of major roads across the 13 LGAs of the state. Abkaliki the capital now compete with the likes of Dubai, UAE in terms of infrastructural advancement. The construction of flyover bridges, water fountains at strategic locations in the state, street lightening of over 80% of the entire capital city and the headquarters of the 13 LGAs, were all meant to enhance the aesthetic nature and improve the economic fortune of the state.

The youths of the has been taken of the street , as the government has directly appointed over 300 of the them as Senior Technical Assistants and Technical Assistants (STAs and TAs) to the governor in different specializations, over 5,000 youths within the state and those from the state that are residing outside the state were empowered with the sum of 250,000 each. Over 400 TVS tricycles were also distributed to the youths and women in the state. Some selected widows has also been placed on monthly salary to enhance their living standards. The traditional institutions and rulers has been upgraded as all of them has brand new suv jeeps and their living conditions improved, so as to help them discharge their duties effectively and efficiently.

The hospitals in the state has also received facelift .the construction of south East virology center in Abakaliki have helped in checkmating the outbreak of some epidemics and seasonal diseases like lassa fever in the state and south east region.

Governor Umahi’s policy on agriculture has revived the moribund agricultural practice thereby, making agriculture the economic main stay and ensured food security and sufficiency in the state.

Ebonyians can now sleep with their two eyes closed. This is owing to the fact that the governor places high premium in the life and property of the people. Ezza /Ezillo now inter marry because of the restoration of permanent peace within the two warring communities which had lasted for decades.
The economy of the state has improved significantly, as the rapid development of the state coupled with the peace, security and stability the state has witnessed since Gov. Umahi took over. Ebonyi citizen anywhere in the world, now beats up his/her chest as proudly Eboyian. Enonyi state now ranked high in the comity of states in the Federation and beyond. We are hopeful that Governor Umahi’s second term will make more magics.
