Okomigbo, Ngwogwo Land Dispute; Ebonyi Security Commmissioner Calls For Calm, Assures Of Speedy Resolution
The Commmissioner for internal security, border peace and conflict resolution, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha has assured the people of Okomigbo autonomous community in Mpu, Aninri local government area of Enugu state of speedy and amicable resolution of the boundary dispute with her sister community of Ngwogwo in Ishiagu, Ivo local government area of Ebonyi State, noting that Ebonyi State Governor, Engr David Umahi and his Enugu state counterpart, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi are people loving leaders and will ensure that the boundary dispute is resolved to continue with the brotherly relationship that had long existed between the two communities and the state at large.
Chief Emegha gave the assurance during a fact finding visit to the community to know the root cause of the disputed.
Narrating the issue, the traditional ruler of Okomigbo autonomous community, HRH Eze Cletus Izuchukwu stated that the action of Ngwogwo people was that of "incursion and provocation", noting that Ngwogwo people invaded Usaa farm land with bulldozer, chasing away their people out of their farms, destroying their crops and economic trees. He pointed out that the action was provocative that the youths wanted to respond to the attack which would have been disastrous, but "we prevailed on them because we are peace loving and don't want any blood shade or to loose any of our people", he said.
On his part, the president General of the community, Chief James Okoro lamented that the community has written to the National boundary Commission and scheduled to visit the disputed boundary last February, but was stalled due to the outbreak of Coronavirus pandemic.
He thanked the Government of Ebonyi State and the Commissioner for the timely intervention, promising that his people will continue to toe the path of peace.
Also speaking, the secretary of Eze's cabinet, Chief Chukwu Fedinard, Mr Isaac Okoro among others, thanked the commissioner for the way and manner he approached the issue, noting that the two communities are brothers and in extension, the state and will do everything to maintain the relationship, saying that they are optimistic that the issue will be resolved without shedding of blood.
In conclusion, the Commmissioner, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha thanked them for the warm reception accorded him and his team and assured that in two weeks time he will liase with his Enugu state counterpart and meet with the two communities to ensure that the dispute is amicably resolved.
