Ebonyi 2019 Guber Race; Sen. Ogbuorji Gets The Blessing Of His People
The event
took place at a town hall meeting of Edda people called by Edda Okigbo Forum,
the oldest socio-cultural organization of Edda people which was held at
Ebunwanna Edda Civic Centre.
Edda clan is
the third largest homogenious clan in Ebonyi state after Ezza and Izzi clans.
Speaking at
the occasion, a prominent Edda businessman, Dr Mike Okoro (Vote for Jesus) said
that Sen. Ogbuorji was a more experienced politician and was better groomed in
public administration to take over the governance of Ebonyi state to ensure
that the entire citizenry were carried along and made to matter in policy
decision and implementation. He said that Ogbuorji became a Local Government Chairman
in the old Afikpo Local Government Area in 1990-1994 and did very well as a
grass root administrator before venturing into state and national politics. ‘’At
the state and national levels, he was active in several political parties
before the formation of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in 1998 which he was
one of the founding members of the party. He had served as Chairman, Secondary
Education Board under the government of Dr Sam Egwu and was also Commissioner
for Economic Empowerment and Poverty Alleviation under the regime of Chief Martin
Elechi before he was elected into the Senate in 2011 and re-elected for second
term in 2015. So you can see that Sonni Ogbuorji is an all-rounder with a solid
experience’’ he said.
In his own
speech, the Chairman of the occasion, Comrade Egwu Chima, said that Ebonyi
state needed a new direction of leadership in 2019 and noted that the welfare
of all Ebonyians was very paramount as to who becomes the next governor. He
said that the present administration under Engr David Umahi has suffocated and
impoverished the people hence, Ebonyians are in dire need of radical change to
take back their destiny into their hands. Chima said that he was one of those
who fought for the creation of Ebonyi state but regretted that the fortunes of
the state under Umahi have been seized and turned into the private estate of a
maximum and greedy dictator who does not care about the wellbeing of others.
In his
speech, Sen. Ogbuorji thanked the Edda Okigbo Forum for organizing the town
hall meeting but noted that he was not going to be a sectional administrator.
He said that as a Governor of the state, every family will be treated equally
and every Local Government Area will receive their fair share of the Economic
resources of the state. ‘’I will not interfere with the normal running of the
civil service, workers will be paid their standard salaries paid in other state
of the South East. Permanent secretaries will be appointed and retired civil
servants will receive their gratuity promptly. Teachers welfare will be pursued
vigorously and Local Government autonomy will be restored’’ he assured.
The motion
for the adoption of Sen. Ogbuorji by Edda Clan as the governorship candidate
for the 2019 election was moved by Navy Commander Udu Nkama (rtd) and was seconded by Rtd Justice Nkama Mba Obo
(Anaegbu Achara 1 of Edda land).
The meeting
was attended by a cross – section of Edda who returned home from Lagos, Abuja,
Port Harcourt, Aba, Calabar, Kano, Kaduna etc and they included trade
unionists, politicians, professionals, public servants, technocrats, farmers,
Businessmen and financial experts.
