Ebonyi Exco Member Lauds Governor Umahi's Peace Initiative


Ebonyi state Governor, Engr David Nweze Umahi’s effort in hounding down insecurity in the state has received wide commendation.The Special Assistant to Governor Umahi on Abakaliki Capital City, Hon. Stanley Okoro Emegha made the commendation in a chat with newsmen in Abakaliki.

Emegha who was reacting to Governor Umahi’s peace initiative, in bringing to an end, the aged-long land dispute between Enyibichiri community in Ikwo Local Government and Enyigba community of Abakaliki Local Government Areas of the state. He said, the recent resolution reached by the state government, officially adopting the land demarcating document which, according to him, is a signal to return of permanent peace in the troubled areas, was informed by the Governor’s proactive approach in tackling security issues which he said, accounts for why Ebonyi State has been adjudged the most peaceful state in Nigeria today. 

Hon. Emegha expressed confidence that the high premium the Umahi Administration placed on security of lives and property of Ebonyi people has not only drastically reduced to the barest minimum, incidence of both inter and intra-communal clashes, but also encouraged peaceful co-existence among citizens of the state.

He However, appealed to the warring factions in Izzi and Ikwo to sheath their sword and allow for the peaceful and amicable resolution of the dispute which, he believe, will be to the satisfaction of the parties involved.

Hon. Stanley Okoro Emegha further commended Governor Umahi for the procurement of Hilux Vehicles for distribution to members of the Neighbourhood Watch across the state for security surveillance, pointing out that the synergy between the Police and the Neighbourhood Watch is heart-warming.

The Special Assistant to the Governor on Capital City therefore, enjoined members of the Neighbourhood Watch to re-double their efforts in complementing the role of the Police towards the maintenance of law and order and to use judiciously the security vehicle assign them for the purpose it is meant to serve.
