Al-Makura Sacks All Political Appointees Ahead Of May 29 Handover

Gov. Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa state has disengaged all his political appointees ahead of his exit from office on May 29. Al-Makura announced the disengagement of the appointees during an expanded state executive council meeting on Wednesday in Lafia. He said the decision was to ensure a seamless transition from his administration to the incoming administration of Mr Abdullahi Sule. Al-Makura, however, said that some appointees handling critical position that has to do with the day-to-day running of government would maintain their positions until May 29. He also directed all Commissioners to tidy up their hand over notes and submit same to him on or before May 20. The governor said the handing over notes would be a guiding document to their successor. SA Capital City Inspects Abakaliki International Park, Commends Fast Pace of Work

The SA on Capital City to Ebonyi state Governor, Hon  Stanley Okoro Emegha  has commended the fast pace of work at the new International park at Sperando Junction in Abakaliki. speaking while inspecting the project, Hon Emegha praised the vision of Governor Umahi, and as well commended the contractors for delivering to the standard expected of them. He noted that the park will give the capital city a new look, and that the State Government will ensure that the park is always neat and orderly when completed. On the planned commissioning of the park, the SA noted that with the pace at which the buildings are progressing, it may likely be among those the Governor will commission before assuming office for his second term. Emegha reiterated that Governor Umahi will not rest until the state capital becomes one of the best in the country. He as well called on residents of the State to support the government and ensure protection of facilities meant for their own good.

INEC Gives New Date For Kogi, Bayelsa States Guber Polls

The Independent National Electoral Commission (lNEC) has shifted the date for the Kogi and Bayelsa States governorship election earlier scheduled for Nov. 2 to Nov. 16. The Commission disclosed this in a statement issued by its National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr Festus Okye on Thursday in Abuja. The decision, according to Okoye, was taken at the commission’s regular weekly meeting held on Thursday, following several appeals received by INEC from critical stakeholders from Bayelsa demanding for a change in the earlier fixed date. “It will be recalled that on April 9, lNEC released the timetable and schedule of activities for the Kogi and Bayelsa governorship elections. DSS Gives Clarifications On Justice Bulkachuwa's Alleged Indictment

The Department of State Services (DSS) has denied that it indicted Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, Chairman, Presidential Election Tribunal, for bribery and corruption. Public Relations Officer of the service, Mr Peter Afunanya, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, in reaction to reports of such indictment of the judge by DSS. He urged the public to disregard the report, saying it only existed in the imagination of the authors. Afunanya described the report as “unfortunate”, adding that making the falsehood public was unethical. He said the service had commenced a detailed investigation into the controversies surrounding the publication. The spokesman advised politicians to be law-abiding and respect the process of litigations regarding the activities of the tribunal “and leave the service alone”. The Kano State Government said on Saturday that the court order purportedly stopping the inauguration of the four emirs in Kano was belated as the emirs were appointed on Thursday 9 May. Beside, the government said it was yet to receive the order restraining Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje from further action. Abba Anwar, the Chief Press Secretary to Ganduje said the court order was reportedly issued around 5pm on Friday May 10, 2019, a day after the new emirs had formally accepted their appointments. His statement suggested that the inauguration of the emirs of Rano, Karaye, Gaya and Bichi would go ahead on Saturday as planned. “Letters of the Notification of Appointment were written from the office of the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, since Thursday, May 9, 2019 and were despatched to the concerned Emirs the following day Friday, May 10, 2019, in the very early hours of the day,” Anwar said. He said that most of the damages done to the public infrastructures are perpetrated by heavy duty vehicles drivers which occur mostly at night. Emegha warned that government will henceforth, be tough on anyone caught damaging any of the facilities as appropriate measures has been put in place to checkmate the activities of those unpatriotic elements.
