Ebonyi Politics Of Name Calling: Tantrum And Street Gossip
Ebonyi state is awash with all kinds of campaign of calumny.
Several permutations have been made regarding the 2019 elections. Many political weaklings and never - do - wells have even joined the fray to bandy all kinds of political prophecies regarding how the governorship elections will be won and lost in the state.
A very notorious story which have dominated major drinking joint in Abakaliki, have it that, the former senate president, Anyim Pius Anyim, have completed plans to pick the PDP Governorship ticket and defeat the incumbent governor of the state, Engnr David Nweze Umahi. The story tellers also said that Gov. Umahi will join a miniature political party and contest the governorship election as an outsider. WHY SHOULD THIS BE? They claim that governor Umahi had a secret agreement with Anyim Pius Anyim during the 2015 election, to run only for one term after which he will handover to Anyi Pius Anyim to finish the second term.
We in Ebonyi Times have a different view and a different outlook to the entire political game evolving in Ebonyi State.
our submission is that, even if they was such an agreement between gov. Umahi and Anyim Pius Anyim, a peaceful resolution of the impasse should be embarked upon to give room for total reconciliation. The reason for the reconciliation is that, if Anyim Pius Anyim insists on going the whole hug to contest the governorship election, they are great chances that he may loose the election, owing to the fact that, he command less or no political influence in Abakaliki political bloc which is the majority in Ebonyi politics. They are chances also, that Gov. Umahi may win the election due to his present track records of infrastructural development, or he may loose in which case the PDP has been badly divided, thereby creating chance for the opposition APC in the state.
Another scenario which may play out is that, the APC may decide to shop for its gubernatorial candidate from Abakaliki bloc once they notice that Umahi and Anyim who are from the south are up for a dirty fight. In view of the above, i suggest that Anyim should go and resolve whatever differences he has with Gov Umahi for the interest of Ebonyi south in particular and the PDP in general.
We should won the PDP leadership against making unrealistic and false assumption. It will be fool - handy for the PDP national body to contemplate denying an incumbent and a performing governor a well deserved second term ticket. The political crises and tsunami the action may generate, will reverberate beyond the state and create room for dissident political forces to be let loose on the entire south east and spell doom for the PDP nation wide.
