NNAMDI KANU'S VISIT TO ABAKALIKLI; THE AFTERMAT.

The visit of the leader of indigenous people of Biafra ,(IPOB) Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to the ancient city of Abakaliki, the Ebonyi state capital, was heralded with wild jubilation amidst funfair by army of his followers.Though, the visit may have come and gone, but the dusts raised are yet to settle. The visit was one too many,as the capital city witnessed a total within few munits of his visit. vehicular and human traffic were at standstill, the economic activities were brought to an abrupt halt as shops, some major markets within the metropolis and privates businesses were closed down in solidarity with the visit. the motorcyclists popularly called OKADA , the tricycle riders and other artisans were all seen at the center stage of the rally. The visit sent a rude shock to the spine of the political class in the state, as the army of crowds that greeted the visit were intimidating and terrifying,as such have never been witnessed even in any political rally in the state. the battalion...

Ebonyi roads best in S' East - British Govt.

The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Paul Arkwright, has commended Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State for developing infrastructure in the state barely two years of his administration. Arkwright, made the commendation during a state banquet organised in his honour by the state government in Abakaliki on Sunday night. The High Commissioner who was on a working visit to the state, said he travelled on smooth roads into and within the state, describing the roads in Ebonyi as the best in the South-East. "Ebonyi roads are the best in the South-East," the envoy added in a statement on Monday by Umahi's Chief Press Secretary, Emma Anya. ArkWright told the guests at the banguet that he was on the visit to look into the opportunities in agriculture, rice production and infrastructure in the state. UMAHI RAISES COMMITTEE TO END COMMUNAL CLASHES IN IKWO, ABAKALIKI COMMUNITIES.

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. David   Umahi, has inaugurated an 11-man committee to resolve the  communal crisis between Enyigba Izzi in Abakaliki Local Government Area and Enyibichiri Alike in Ikwo Local Government Area. Umahi, who also decorated his Aide de Camp,  Bawado Jonathan , with a new rank  at the Government House in Abakaliki on Wednesday, warned that he might set up a commission of inquiry if the two communities failed to apologise and pledge to sheathe their swords. While he encouraged the chairmen of  Abakaliki and Ikwo Local Government Areas  to set up different  committees  at the local levels  , he enjoined the 11-man committee  to be thorough and honest in its duty . NIGERIANS RESORTS TO SUICIDE AS ECONOMIC SITUATION WORSENED.

An unidentified woman today jumped into the lagoon from Maza-Maza Bridge in the Mile 2 area of Lagos. The woman was however, lucky, as rescuers fished her out before she could drown. According to a witness, the woman, dressed in a blouse and trousers, was trekking and got to the middle of the bridge, climbed the rail and jumped. “The thing happened so fast that we could not stop her. However, when she jumped, we called for help, prompting people under the bridge to dive in and rescue her,” said one of the witnesses, who gave his name as Emeka. When Daily Sun got the the scene, the woman was lying unconscious by the shore of the lagoon, while her rescuers tried to press her bloated stomach to expel the excess water she took in before her rescue. The US has indicated her interest to partner with the government of Ebonyi state in Agricultural sector and solid mineral development. This statement was made by the US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Stuart Symington, when led a team of US diplomats to Ebonyi state on Friday. He said   he was impressed that the governor  was putting government to work for the benefit of the people.   He said," I was particularly honored because   I had the chance to see before I got here(Government House, Abakaliki). I have  gone round to see what  you people in  state are doing and your leadership to improve infrastructure. By Philip Nweze When Ebonyi State governor, Engr David Umahi announced that he was going to conduct local government elections across the 13 council areas of the state many thought it was mere political statement. The announcement, no doubt, attracted loud applause from many quarters, but with the current stark economic realities and the dramatic drop in federal allocations, the concern on everyone’s mind with regards to the above was, how the state would source funds for the exercise, slated for the second quarter of this year. Governor David who first disclosed this noble intention when stakeholders of Izzi Local Government Area of the state paid him New Year homage at Uburu, his hometown in Ohaozara Local Government Area of the state, posited that the initiative would pave way for more democratic dividends at the grassroots level.
