NNAMDI KANU'S VISIT TO ABAKALIKLI; THE AFTERMAT.
The visit of the leader of indigenous people of Biafra ,(IPOB) Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to the ancient city of Abakaliki, the Ebonyi state capital, was heralded with wild jubilation amidst funfair by army of his followers.Though, the visit may have come and gone, but the dusts raised are yet to settle.
The visit was one too many,as the capital city witnessed a total within few munits of his visit. vehicular and human traffic were at standstill, the economic activities were brought to an abrupt halt as shops, some major markets within the metropolis and privates businesses were closed down in solidarity with the visit. the motorcyclists popularly called OKADA , the tricycle riders and other artisans were all seen at the center stage of the rally.
The visit sent a rude shock to the spine of the political class in the state, as the army of crowds that greeted the visit were intimidating and terrifying,as such have never been witnessed even in any political rally in the state. the battalion of law enforcement agents guiding the crowd were unprecedented.the colourful display of skills by some specially designed motor-bike on the entourage were sight to behold.the coloureful outfit, face caps and flag designed in supposedly BIAFRA colour , gave great aesthetic value and ambiance to the crowd.
the was said to be a welcomed development to the common man on the street, who were seen at the center stage of the struggle for the independent of BIAFRA. but was regarded a great threat to the political class who believed that the visit, turned rally is capable of undermining their political ambitions and influence, especially now that the 2019 general election approaching. a school of thought opined that the growing influence of the struggle for BIAFRA is capable creating grave tension in the polity, thereby pinching the political class from the state and the zone against the federal authority if not well handled. other school of thought, maintained that the total rejection of the struggle by the political class may spell doom for them and their political carrea, reason being, that the supporters of the proponent of the struggle constitute a chunk of the voting populace and any attempt to undermine them will be disasterous to the ruling class, hence the application of doctrine of necessity became imperative.
in all, the visit had become subject of public discussion , as people were seen in their group analyzing the visit and what it means to them. some believed that their dreamed freedom is come and no one can stop it. generally, some said that the fight for BIAFRA is a noble cause that MUST be sustained. indeed hopes were raised by the visit. but the underlining reality here, remains that those fighting for the liberation of BIAFRANS are regarded as insignificant member of the society, who weighed little or no influence among the populace. while others are those from the region residing outside the shores of Nigeria, and who had contributed little or nothing to the development of the region.
the bottom line here, remains that , a strong message has been sent to the mental reasoning of those in the leadership position, that the struggle for BIAFRA is the peoples struggle and can never be stopped through violent acts but through strong negotiation and persuasion.
but the question here is, will BIAFRA freedom ever come? and how soon? only time will tell.
