Security Commissioner Sue For Peace In Ebonyi Community

In a bid to ensure that enduring peace prevails in all parts of the state, the commissioner for internal security border peace and conflict resolution, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, on Thursday, passionately prevailed on the people of Ukawu autonomous community in Onicha Local Government Area of the state, to embrace peace and quit the character of leadership tussle currently, brewing in the community.

The commissioner stated this during a meeting with the stakeholders of the community, following a rising tension due to the leadership squabble orchestrated by the petition written by a group known as "Ukawu leaders of thought", alleging that the current tenure of current Caretaker Leadership of the town Union have elapsed and expressed the need for a new leadership to emerge in the community.

He charged the leaders to guide the existing peace in the area jealously, and never give room for crises of any kind, noting that crises is an ill-wind that blows no one any good.

The Commissioner reiterated the resolve of the state government to put on hold, all forms of town Union leadership election in the state pending when the ground will be normal for such activities.

He also added that the government have equally made it as a policy that any community whose traditional is dead will not have an election until the traditional ruler is buried, as a mark of honor.

The commissioner however, set up a 7- man peace Committee to look into the issues and report back to him within the next two weeks, with the view of finding a common ground for peace to reign in the community.

Speaking during the meeting, the caretaker Chairman of the Union, Dr Francis Ikele said that the issues is not beyond their power to handle, promising that it will be amicably resolved. 

He thanked the commissioner for the words of advice he handed down to them, assuring that there will be no crises in the community.

Also speaking, the coordinator, Ukawu leaders of thought, Engr. Chukwunonyelum Nwutobo appreciated the Swift response of the commissioner to their letter, commending his peaceful disposition.

He lauded Governor David Umahi's stance on peace, assuring the commissioner that they will jointly work to ensure that no crises is recorded in the area.
